Rumor has it that Kanye West may voice a character on the Family Guy spin-off. It’s times like this that I wish I had TiVo. Hopefully it’ll be something like this.

You need to check this song out. I’ve listened to it probably about a dozen times in the last day and a half. Great beat, solid hook, and the verses are pretty catchy too. Before listening to most of their debut today, I only knew these guys from Aesop Rock’s “Limelighters” and Kidz in the Hall’s “Snob Hop”. Wikipedia says their lyrics are made up of “Blaxploitation-style Dadaist slang”. How come no one tries to conjure of the spectre of dada for Lil Wayne? Anyways, if you want to download the track, just head over to Nah Right ‘s posting of the song.

Btw, I’d have to see an interview before I buy that dadaist slang apologism (say that word out loud), but it sure sounds good.

Update: Lil Wayne was called a “dreadlocked dadaist poet” by Jody Rosen in Rolling Stone‘s review of Tha Carter III. And now that we’re totally off-topic, here is a pretty cool article talking about Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and elitist hipster bloggers (ahem Pitchfork ahem). Be sure to read the comments at the bottom for further intelligent discussion.

Double the Eminemenimem?

I guess the forthcoming Relapse (May 19) isn’t all Eminem’s been working on this year. Sessions between him and Dre resulted in enough material for two albums, so that’s what he plans to do with it. I’m excited to hear a bunch of new Dre production, but can we stop with the (Album name) 2/3/4/…?

It’s March!

Asher Roth- “I Love College”: You may have heard of Asher Roth, he’s an ‘up and coming’ artist, which I put in quotes because of the impending return of Eminem. Certainly we don’t need his facsimile when we have the real thing, right? This is the single off Asleep in the Bread Aisle.

Eminem- “Guilty Conscience”: Just to demonstrate that they share similar voices and styles. As if I needed to. The Slim Shady LP.

Cunninlyguists- “The Gates”: I was telling Christi that the white dude in Cunninlynguists also shares that same ‘look at me I’m a white rapper so I’ve gotta be funny to make it’ attitude and style as Eminem, so she played this to see if it is true. This is a bad example. Try “Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts” instead. Both are off of Will Rap For Food.

Tech N9ne- “It’s Alive”: I had some business to attend to for a couple of minutes, so Christi decided to rep KC. MC Chris Barnes would be so proud. From Anghellic.

The Knux- “F!re (Put it In the Air)”: Here I go again. Listening to songs in the studio instead of at home. This was the first time I was bored by this album. I guess it was bound to happen. Remind Me in 3 Days… to finish listening to the album (see how cute I am?).

The Pharcyde- “Passing Me By”: I don’t know much about the Pharcyde, which is to say I don’t know anything about them. I know they are a group, and have a style some might call ‘backpacker.’ I don’t know what album that song is from. Just kidding, it’s from Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde.

Edan- “Promised Land”: I like this song/beat more than the other song from Beauty and the Beat we have in the station. Great sample, good flow, I just wish it was longer. He looks a little like Aesop Rock.

Jake One- “The Truth (ft. Freeway & Brother Ali)”: This beat is hot. Seriously. I’ve been listening to this song all the time recently. The sample is “At Night Time” by Johnnie Taylor, which I’ve never heard, but maybe that means something to you. In an interview with Brother Ali, HipHopDx’s interviewer suggests that Jake One should do more beats for Ali. I second that. White Van Music.

N.A.S.A- “N.A.S.A. Music (ft. Method Music, E-40, & DJ Swamp)”: Here was my mini-theme of the night: producers who don’t do vocals. First Jake One, then N.A.S.A., get it? (This is the type of cleverness you get to be witness to when you listen to my show. I’ve been told it’s wonderful.) Believe it or not, but I finally listened to all of The Spirit of Apollo. I enjoyed it. “Gifted,” the song featuring Kanye is my favorite on the album, for what that’s worth.

Mr. Lif- “Brothaz”: I don’t really know this song, but I like the album I Phantom, especially the song “Earthcrusher.” This is off his second album Mo’ Mega. He’s on Def Jux if you didn’t know, and allegedly has a new album coming this year.

Kid Cudi- “Man on the Moon (The Anthem)”: So I finally played Kid Cudi on my show. It felt good. This was the first song that really jumped out at me on A Kid Named Cudi. Which, by the way, you should listen to. It’s not bad.

Talib Kweli- “Hostile Gospel”: I love this song. Eardrum is sort of disappointing on the whole, but this is a legitimately great song.

Kanye West- “Gone (ft. Cam’ron & Consequence)”: MC Chris Barnes is right. This is the best song on Late Registration. The beat is awesome, Cam’ron and Consequence bring great guest spots, and you get two (!) vintage Kanye verses.

Busta Rhymes- “Party is Goin’ On Over Here”: How disappointing. I really wish I had just played “Gone” twice in a row. If this is your sort of thing (and more power to you) then check out E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event): The Final World Front. As if I wasn’t mad enought about playing the song, that has to be the album title?!

KRS-One- “Rappaz R. N. Dainja”: I thought a little KRS-One (of Boogie Down mythos) would help turn the show around. I guess I should have known better when I saw the title. The thing about KRS is that when he sticks to what made him great (political commentary and story-telling), he can still be very good, but when he falls into silly rap cliches (see this song), he could be just about anybody. This song is from earlier than I thought (95’s self-titled album), so maybe the fact that it is a remix explains why it didn’t work.

Blackalicious- “Supreme People”: A song of The Craft for once. I don’t know The Craft at all, so I’m trying to feel it out on air ala The Knux. This sounded okay, but I think I was paying to much attention to blogging while it was playing.

Joell Ortiz- “Keep Callin’ (ft. Akon)”: I like this song. Joell Ortiz’s verses aren’t his best ever, but he still manages to convey some really interesting tidbits under the guise of the poppiest song in his catalog. From The Brick: Bodega Chronicles.

Jay-Z- “The Ruler’s Back”: Who doesn’t love Blueprint? The thing about that album is that the first single is legitimately the best song on the album (“Izzo (H.O.V.A.)”), something that I feel rarely happens. I know some idiots might argue that “Renegade” (me a year or so ago) or “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love)” are better, but seriously, neither of those statements are true. “Izzo” is great because it manages to be potentially the catchiest song he’s ever written (no small thanks to Kanye for the beat btw), and the verses are sneakily great. Go listen to the third verse  (“I was raised in the pro-jects, roaches and rats/Smokers out back, sellin’ they mama’s sofa/Lookouts on the corner, focused on the ave…”), yeah it’s simple, but simple like the Beatles are simple, and those details could very well be on Illmatic.

Nas- “Queens Get the Money”: You know the part in the song where he mentions Kelis (“I used my milkshake to bring ya’ll to my slaughterhouses”)? It’s because they’re married. And she’s pregnant apparently. And they’re having a reality show!!! Those exclamation points are somewhat sarcastic, I don’t actually think Nas is interesting enough to carry a show. He’s certainly no Rob Dyrdek. Anyways, this song is off of Untitled.

Clipse- “Young Boy”: Lord Willin’. This blog post is taking forever so I’m just going to rap this up.

Re-Up Gang- “Show You How to Hustle”: This is off of We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3. New Clipse look out! And stay away from the Re-up Gang album, you’re better off with the mixtapes.

Lupe Fiasco- “Go Go Gadget Flow”: He’s from Chicago, I’m sort of from Chicago, but I don’t really care too much for him. I should probably give him a better chance, but he just seems like such a wimp. The Cool.

The Roots- “75 Bars (Black’s Reconstruction)”: Weird beat, but cool. Go watch them on Jimmy Fallon’s new late night show, because that is the only place you’ll see them for a while. Rising Up.

Big Daddy Kane- “Young Gifted & Black”: You know I like this song, and I also like Atmosphere’s version “YGM”. Apparently Aretha Franklin has a record by the same name (and Nina Simone too sorta). It’s a Big Daddy Thing.

Hu$tle Simmons- “Everybody (The Chase)”: Another one from these dudes, whoever they are. This one seemed okay, not a great hook, but the verses were better than I’ve noticed in past songs. Self-titled album.

Aesop Rock- “Limelighters (ft. Camp Lo)”: Camp Lo changed their name to just Lo, but now it’s back again. I really like their guest verse on “Snob Hop” by Kidz in the Hall. This is another track from Bazooka Tooth.

Kanye West on VH1’s Storytellers

kanye-layingIf nothing else it’s a very interesting performance. About half the songs are from 808s and Heartbreak and the other half are a mix of Graduation and Late Registration. Kanye acts crazy a whole bunch, discusses his desire to kill a man (you’ll see), lays down on stage, and does some pretty cool reditions of some of his songs. It’s worth watching. Check out Nah Right’s coverage (including downloadable mixtape version!). I guess you could visit DogsPlayPoker and follow his link, but much like his blog it’s lower quality. Plus at Nah Right you can watch each song individually.

Clipse + Rick Rubin=Very Nice!

That’s right, Till the Casket Drops will be featuring a little Rick Rubin production. One song done, and one or two more soon. Update on the album:

The Clipse is currently aiming for a late-summer release for Til the Casket Drops, which will feature contributions from a wide range of beatsmiths. First single “Kinda Like a Big Deal,” produced by DJ Khalil and featuring Kanye West, is set to drop March 9.

It looks like my estimate was a bit off, but I’m excited to hear the single in what, 2 weeks?!

By the way, that picture is fucking awesome.

146x600musicwutangrev3Another great show if I say so myself. I’m pretty used to not having to worry about MC Chris Barnes fucking up whatever he touched in the station now, and I must say it’s a relief. It’s also nice to be able to talk on the air without your partner giggling uncontrollably every time you use the word ‘Beerweiner.’ I must admit that I do miss the ego boost that came with working alongside such an incompetent burnout. Anyway, here’s what I played, plus some insightful commentary.

The Posse- “Yo Sistah”: Started off tonight’s set with my own group (not vain since I’m not featured on the song, right?). Great production by my man Buck Beautiful plus solid verses all around. From: Welcome to the Posse, Bitch.

2Pac- “Changes”: I almost cut into this to yell “NOT!” after 2Pac says the “We’re not ready to see a black president” line. Fortunately for the listeners, I wasn’t close enough to the mic to get it off in time. Next time though. Off of Greatest Hits.

Grand Buffet- “We’re Into This”: These guys are a Pittsburgh duo, both with a variety of nick-names (Grape-a-don, Fred Durts, and Plaps to name a few). I only have an incomplete EP by them, and I keep trying to get my hands on some more of their music, but every time I listen to their Myspace I’m not impressed. Still, I like this song and “Cool as Hell,” off the Pittsburgh Hearts EP.

Sage Francis- “Got Up This Morning”: MC Chris Barnes liked this beat, and sometimes I do things he would like so that I can’t tell he’s not around :'(. From Human the Death Dance.

Wu-Tang Clan- “Triumph (ft. Cappadonna)”: Look, I’m no Wu expert, and sometimes it seems like Cappadonna is a part of the clan and sometimes it seems like he isn’t. All I know is that the case for Wu-Tang Forever lists Cappadonna as a feature. This song started my short set that took the listener through as many Clan solo acts as the station could muster (sorry U-God, Inspectah Deck, and Masta Killa!), which was defended as a lesson in telling them apart, but which may have been motivated in great part by laziness. Damn if the station didn’t get grimy there for a while.

Ghostface Killah- “The Champ”: This beat is killer. Seriously, give it up to Just Blaze for this one. This song should be played very loud. It’s from Fishscale.

Raekwon- “Incarcerated Scarfaces”: I didn’t want to play “Verbal Intercourse,” partially because I’ve played it several times before and partially because I wanted to showcase Raekwon on his own. This is an Only Built 4 Cuban Linx track.

Wu-Tang Clan- “Method Man”: I had a couple other options for Method Man’s track, but is there a good reason for not playing the track that shares his name? You could argue that it’s technically a Wu-Tang track since it’s off Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), but that would be stupid. Btw, did you know Method Man is the youngest member of the Clan? Who would’ve guessed?

RZA- “Drama (ft. Monk & Thea)”: I guess this is off of Digi Snacks, from last year. I didn’t want to play any solo songs that had features, but my hands were kind of tied with RZA, and I figured that since the other two aren’t from Wu it didn’t matter. Good beat (surprise surprise), and RZA’s lyrics weren’t all that bad (more of a surprise).

GZA- “Paper Plate”: I felt like I was playing a bunch of early Wu-Tang stuff, so I shied away from playing a track off of Liquid Swords (plus I think I played that song last week). This is from Pro Tools, which came out a few months ago. It’s a diss track against 50 Cent if you didn’t notice, and has tons of good lines (“Only missin’ the sheer blouse. Homie, you see-through.” damn). Says 50, “Listen, I have an old school Chevy Impala your age.”

Ol’ Dirty Bastard- “Got Your Money”: I almost forgot that we had ODB in the studio, and it would have been a tragedy not to respect the late legend. I’d like to see a movie made about ODB, played by the dude who was Bubbles on The Wire (he knows how to play a dope fiend). This is from Nigga Please.

N.A.S.A.- “Gifted (ft. Kanye West, Santogold & Lykke Li)”: I finally got to listen to a track from this album, and I must say I enjoyed it a lot. Good production, good hook, Kanye rapping a lil bit… By the way, I think MC Chris Barnes and I were talking about this drunk at 4 am in the McDonald’s drive-thru, but either The College Dropout=ghostwritten or Kanye since=apathetic. He just doesn’t rap the same way anymore. Sorry for that tangent, the N.A.S.A. album is called Spirit of Apollo.

The Knux- “The True”: I’m trying to work my way through this album one song at a time. The verses didn’t really jump out at me, but I feel like I’d like the album if I would just sit down and listen to it all at once. Find it on Remind Me In 3 Days…

Blackalicious- “Blazing Arrow”: Two weeks, two Blackalicious songs, and no “Paragraph President”? And it’s not even from thinking PP was track 10 instead of 9 which seemed to happen every week last year. Is it cool to watch maturation in action? Duh, it’s from Blazing Arrow.

Black Star- “RE: Definition”: Rumors of a new Black Star album in the works. The first one is called Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star.

Notorious B.I.G.- “Mo Money Mo Problems (ft. Ma$e & Puff Daddy)”: This was my favorite song in about 5th grade. I’ve written too much about this song already, so just check out Life After Death.

Novel- “Damn”: I was pumped for a mixtape this guy put out a little while ago called 808s and Mixtapes because I thought it was just going to be someone rapping over all the beats from 808s and Heartbreak. It wasn’t, and when he did it was disappointing. This one is from the I Am… (Future Black President) EP in the station.

Redman & Gorillaz- “Gorillaz On My Mind”: Found this one on vinyl in the station and decided to give it a spin. The beat is pretty cool, but it might just be a Gorillaz song. You can find it on the Blade 2 soundtrack.

Aesop Rock- “N.Y. Electric”: I never could really get into Aesop Rock until pretty recently. But if you’re going to give Lil’ Wayne’s gibberish a Grammy, then you’ve got to respect a dude who’s been doing a more advanced thing his whole career without being doped up on syrup the whole time. This is off Bazooka Tooth, but Labor Days is pretty good too.

Nas- “Ya’ll My Niggas”: Speaking of Lil’ Wayne, I’ll listen to Untitled over The Carter III any day. Yeah it falls short as a cohesive message, but it’s fairly consistent thematically and has some good songs too. My love for “Hero” is well known, but this one might be my favorite song on the album.

Kool G Rap- “Streets of New York”: I could really like Kool G Rap, but I can’t get into most of the production on Wanted: Dead or Alive. And those late 80s flows just feel so dated and simplistic to me.

Killer Mike- “Can You Hear Me?”: I don’t think I’m ready to call I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II like HipHopDX did, but I like it more than I expected to. It sounds like Justin Timberlake is doing the chorus on this song, but I can’t figure out who it is. I really like this song.

Clipse- “Wamp Wamp (What it Do) (ft. Slim Thug)”: I love that phrase, ‘wamp wamp’, which is apparently both a way to holler at the opposite sex and cocaine. Good combo. Hell Hath No Fury is the home to this one.

Johnson&Jonson- “Half A’ Knot”: Johnson&Jonson is the combination of the rapper Blu and the producer Mainframe. It’s also the name of the album. I’ve been listening to this all the time recently. I can’t say I understand why every guest on the album takes a ‘Johnson’ moniker, but it’s got a really cool style to it.

Snoop Dogg- “We Just Wanna Party With You (ft. Jermaine Dupri)”: Remember the Men in Black soundtrack? Turns out there isn’t a video for it, but maybe this one will do.

Murs- “Break Up (The OJ Song)”: Like the Knux album, I’m trying to make my way through Murs For President on my show. So far it’s about what I expected, which isn’t bad, but isn’t great either.

Jay-Z- “What More Can I Say”: It says something that it didn’t occur to me to play a Jay-Z song until 10 minutes were left in the show. I go back and forth on whether or not The Black Album is my favorite of Jay-Z’s. I’m not calling it his best, but hit for hit it can hold up against any of his others.

Atmosphere- “Always Coming Back Home to You”: It’s always nice to end on a story song, especially one as visual as this. Plus, with the hidden track attached the song is 9 min 11 sec long. Seven’s Travels.

I’ve been listening to that Kid Cudi mixtape a lot recently. I’m not wild about “Day and Night,” but I really dig some of his other songs (“Man on the Moon (The Anthem)“, “The Prayer“, “Is There Any Love“). He’s not breaking any new ground lyrically, but the guy can sing better than Kanye and has that same sort of charm.

Lots of pretty colors in these videos, which is eminently pleasing to your favorite blogger’s child-like intellect.

Coming Soon…

Here is a first installment of some releases I’m looking forward to in ’09. This list is far from comprehensive, these are just the ones you can probably expect to see within the next three or four months (fingers crossed).

Jay-Z The Blueprint 3: Rumored to be produced entirely by Kanye and may feature the best beat ever. I’ve been a little disappointed by some of his flows recently (“I Do It for Hip Hop“, “History“, “Jockin’ Jay-Z“), but a few others give me a touch of hope (“Brooklyn Go Hard“, “BK Anthem“). Plus, Kanye has been known to get the best out of Jay in the past. Release Date: Unknown. I’m guessing it’ll drop sometime this summer.

Clipse Till the Casket Drops: Fresh off the release of a clothing line (Play Cloths), a decent mix-tape commemorating the launch (Road to Till the Casket Drops), and the embarrassing release of the first and last Re-up Gang Album (Clipse Presents: Re-up Gang), the duo returns with their first album since Hell Hath No Fury and the first official release featuring production not from the Neptunes. For a group that has regularly put out some of their best material on free mixtapes (see the We Got it 4 Cheap series), the blandness of RtTtCD is alarming. However, it’s not without its highlights (“Intro“, “The Haters Wish“), and word is that Kanye will be seen rapping on this record. Release Date: Likely April.

Raekwon Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II: Follow up to the original OB4CL, here’s another album that’s been in the works for some time. RZA’s back on board, but will face some stiff competition with Dr. Dre, J Dilla, Pete Rock, and Marley Marl all alleged to have produced tracks for the album. Ghostface will undoubtedly be on half the songs, and you’ll see some other Wu Tang members too. A few tracks have been leaked (“Criminology II“, “Wu Ohh” “Yes Sir“), and they’re a mixture of classic Wu and interesting collabs (Crooked I guests on “Yes Sir”). Which is about what you can expect out of the album. Release Date: Supposedly March, but I haven’t seen much promo yet, so maybe as late as April or May.

Joe Budden Padded Room: Looks like this first list is the delayed album edition. This one got pushed back, so Budden released the free mixtape Halfway House to make up for it. That’s the type of move I can respect. Say what you will about Joe Budden—while he’s not quite on the level of the other guys on this list, I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve listened to (which admittedly isn’t too extensive). He doesn’t seem to command the hottest beats, and with the list of producers primarily made up of no names like The Klasix and Blastah Beatz, it’s looking like more of the same. However, Budden has been getting pushed lyrically by the likes of Saigon (“Letter to Saigon“, “Pain in his Life“) and his pals in Slaughterhouse (“Move On“), so expect at least some notable punchlines. Here’s the second single from the album, “In My Sleep“. Release Date: February 24th.

Well, class is ending so I’ve gotta run for now, here’s some other albums you might be excited about:

Jadakiss The Last Kiss: March 10th. Busta Rhymes Back On My B.S.: March 24th. Big Pooh Rapper’s Delight (Delightful Bars Version): March 24th. Aceyalone The Lonely Ones: March 31st.

Best Beat Ever On Blueprint 3?

Kanye apparently thinks so. Fortunately, Kanye isn’t one to be known for hyperbole. No release date yet, but allegedly all but three or four songs are done.

Doubters be damned, I’m putting all my faith in this album…

I’m thinking of doing a most anticipated albums of 2009 list soon, so keep an eye out.

big-l_studio1

Big L- “Put it On”: R.I.P. Big L died on today’s date in 1999. This track is the first off his debut disc Lifestylez Ov Da Poor and Dangerous. Good stuff.

Raekwon- “Verbal Intercourse” (ft. Nas & Ghostface Killah): Classic. Check out Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

Edan- “Syllable Practice”: From Beauty and the Beat. Some good samples on that album.

Clipse- “Comedy Central” (ft. Fabolous): Best Virginian duo I know of. Off their first album, Lord Willin’. Better without Re-Up Gang counterparts, btw.

Slum Village- “Tainted” (ft. Dwele): I don’t know too much about these guys, but they’re from Detroit and are associated with J Dilla often. A quick wikipedia check shows that he used to be their DJ/Producer, and now his younger brother is in the group. From Trinity (Past, Present and Future).

A Tribe Called Quest- “Check the Rhime”: From the acclaimed Low End Theory. Not the hugest ATCQ fan, but Q-Tip’s newest is pretty good.

Blackalicious- “Chemical Calisthenics”: Blazing Arrow. Got sick of playing “Paragraph President” every week. Great album.

Lupe Fiasco- “Pressure” (ft. Jay-Z): Not the biggest Lupe fan either (and I’m from Chicago too…), but I love me a good Jay-Z guest verse. He’s got to be the best guest rapper of all time, right? From Food & Liquor.

Murs- “Lookin’ Fly” (ft. will.i.am.): Off his new one, Murs For President. Haven’t gotten to listen to this whole album yet, but Murs is usually all right by me.

Talib Kweli- “Get By”: That’s right, I do play requests, so call in! From Quality.

Brother Ali- “Forest Whitiker”: Everyone’s favorite albino rapper (I think). Off Shadows on the Sun.

Kanye West- “School Spirit”: This song is actually edited on the album so that he can use the names of the Greek organizations in the song. Saves me some trouble! A College Dropout track.

The Roots- “Birthday Girl”: Fun little song about a girlfriend turning 18 (you know why 😉 [does girlfriend seem too strong a word?]). Off their most recent Rising Down. Any guesses on how long they stay on the Jimmy Fallon show?

Big Daddy Kane- “It’s a Big Daddy Thing”: From the album of the same title. Check out “Show & Prove” from Daddy’s Home, it’s got BDK, Jay-Z, and ODB trading bars with a few others. Oh and it’s from ’94 so it’s early Jay, and you know how much I love that :).

Jurassic 5- “Verbal Gunfight”: Another group I’ll admit that I know almost nothing about. They’ve put out a fair number of albums, I’ve just never listened to any of them. Off an EP we have here in the studio called W.O.E. Is Me.

Big L- “Deadly Combination” (ft. 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G.): The album version of this track is on The Big Picture, but I believe that it is missing the Biggie verse. How many dead rappers can you fit on a song, am I right?

Hu$tle Simmons- “Evacuate” (ft. Al Mighty): We just got this in the studio, and I have no idea what it is. From what the internet tells me, it’s a group made up of MC Dave Ghetto and an up-and-coming DJ Tha S Ence. The album is self-titled.

The Knux- “Bang! Bang!”: I’ve heard of these guys from some music mag’s (website?) buzz column. We just got their debut album Remind Me in 3 Days… in the studio. Based on this track they sound pretty decent.

Scarface- “One”: Used to be in the Geto Boys, this was a random single we’ve got in the hip-hop catalogue. I have no idea where it came from.

UGK- “Real Women” (ft. Talib Kweli & Raheem DeVaughn): Courtesy of MC Chris Barnes (R.I.P.). From the Underground Kingz album.

Nas- “Bridging the Gap” (ft. Olu Dara): This one is from the Cadillac Records soundtrack. Non-traditional rap song, but totally cool.

GZA- “Duel of the Iron Mic”: This is from Liquid Swords, an album I’m allegedly going to see him perform live in the near future. You should come too.

Canibus- “2000 B.C.”: Canibus is someone people love talking about as a great lyricist, but I don’t know enough about him to comment on that discussion. Scratch that, I’ve heard two songs now. One was good, one wasn’t so good. Jury’s still out. I think this is from the album called 2000 B.C.

AZ- “Quiet Money (Blood Money)” (ft. Halfamil & Animal): I’m not sure what the story behind this song is. The group might be called the Union, from a record called Organized Rhymes. It’s a cool song, and I’m a fan of AZ (check out his debut Doe or Die). Btw, he’s the other dude on Illmatic.

Ghostface Killah- “The Champ”: When I first got Fishscale I would listen to this song three or four times in a row. If you haven’t listened to that album yet you should.

Cam’ron- “Hey Ma” (ft. Juelz Santana, Freekey Zeekey & Kay Slay): Cam’ron bringing his crew in tow with a great little romp through a night out on the town. Spoiler alert: these boys know how to pick up women. Off Come Home with Me.

Ludacris- “What’s Your Fantasy”: I assure you I wasn’t having sex in the station during this two song set, but it sure felt like I was! Does anyone not know this song? From Back for the First Time.

Joell Ortiz- “125 Pt. 3 (Connections)” (ft. Ras Kass, Stimuli, Grafh, Gab Gacha): I like Joell Ortiz, and a lot of people don’t know much about him. His debut that this is off of, The Brick: Bodega Chronicles, is a good album. And I love a good posse track.

Big L- “Da Graveyard” (ft. Lord Finesse, Microphone Nut, Jay-Z, Party Arty, & Y.U.): Speaking of posse tracks… One last song for Big L on what is no longer the anniversary of his death. Oh well, he deserves it. Oh yeah, and some more early Jay-Z. You can figure out how I feel about that song. Btw, Party Arty is dead as well. Lots of death on tonight’s show, and that’s saying a lot for a hip-hop show.

I enjoyed myself, and I hope you non-existent listeners did too. Remember, every Sunday from 11pm-1am. 88.7, the Edge.
